Porsche Design was founded in 1972 by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. Its design philosophy centres on technology, materials and functional clarity, extending beyond the automotive world into objects for everyday use. The underlying principle is that form should serve a purpose. In eyewear, this translates into precise lines, considered construction and a technical character that favours purposeful detail over decoration.

One of the label’s best-known designs is the P’8478, an aviator distinguished by its interchangeable-lens concept. The recognisable frame architecture gives the design continuity, while the ability to change lenses introduces a practical element of versatility. The concept reflects the house’s interest in combining a clear visual identity with functional engineering.

Across its collections, Porsche Design emphasises clean engineering and material choices. Titanium and other technical materials appear in selected designs, while lens options and construction differ between models. The eyewear retains a connection to the marque’s design heritage through its controlled lines and attention to how each element works.
