Face à Face

Eyewear at i2i Optometrists, Glasgow

FACE A FACE was created in 1995 by Pascal Jaulent, Nadine Roth and Alyson Magee, who set out to make eyewear that expressed individual personality. The brand’s own account connects its name to the moment of meeting a new frame in the mirror. That story captures its interest in eyewear not simply as an aid to vision, but as a personal encounter.

Paris is central to the label’s identity. Its designers draw on modern art, architecture, contemporary design and fashion, translating those references into frames with distinctive geometry and colour. FACE A FACE describes itself as bold and unconventional; its designs favour a visual point of view over conformity. Shapes may be angular or sculptural, with colour used as a structural element rather than a minor accent.

The aesthetic is expressive without being limited to one motif. Contrasting tones, unexpected combinations and profiles give the collections a sense of movement and depth. Some frames make a statement through a broad, architectural front; others depend on subtler shifts in line, material or colour. The effect is individualistic: eyewear conceived to reflect the personality of the person wearing it.

The label joined Design Eyewear Group in 2015, two decades after its emergence on the Paris eyewear scene. It continues to describe its creative direction through the language of art, architecture and personal identity. That combination helps explain its particular appeal: FACE A FACE frames can be read as small design objects, but remain rooted in the face and the act of seeing.

Colour with character.
