Garrett Leight California Optical began in Venice Beach in 2010. Founded by Garrett Leight, the label developed its identity around the people, places and creative culture of California.
The company describes its aesthetic as a contemporary interpretation of classic eyewear. Rounded lenses, softly squared fronts and keyhole bridges recur throughout its design vocabulary.
Material selection supports the understated appearance. Garrett Leight uses cured acetates sourced from specialist suppliers, including exclusive colourways and deadstock materials. Depending on the model, sunglass lenses may be mineral glass or CR39. The brand's craftsmanship information now states that its frames are made in Japan, reflecting a focus on precision manufacturing and careful hand finishing.
Although the business has grown beyond its original neighbourhood, Venice remains an explicit reference. Frames carry the VC/CA 90291 marking as a reminder of those roots, while the design studio is based in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. Film, music, art and fashion feed into the collections without overwhelming their functional purpose.
