Colour without convention.
Etnia Barcelona
Eyewear at i2i Optometrists, Glasgow
Etnia Barcelona was founded in 2001 by David Pellicer, building on a family history in eyewear that began with his grandfather, Fulgencio Ramo, during the 1950s. His ambition was to establish a distinctive brand rather than simply continue manufacturing spectacles for others.
Colour became the central expression of that ambition. Drawing inspiration from Barcelona, the label treats eyewear as a meeting point between personal identity, art and design. Its collections explore combinations of translucent tones, patterned acetate and contrasting details, offering an alternative to a wardrobe restricted to conventional black and brown frames.
Materials are an important part of the story. The company identifies Mazzucchelli acetate and Barberini mineral glass among its key resources. Its sunglasses combine expressive frame design with lenses developed around colour and optical performance.
Barcelona is more than a geographical signature in the name. The brand describes the city as open, inventive and rebellious, qualities that shape its visual language. References to art and architecture give familiar spectacle shapes a more individual character.
