Engineering with individuality.

MYKITA

Eyewear at i2i Optometrists, Glasgow

MYKITA was founded in Berlin in 2003, taking its name from the former children's day nursery that housed its first premises. Kita is the German abbreviation for such a nursery. That unconventional beginning became part of a company culture built around curiosity, experimentation and a willingness to develop its own solutions.

When existing manufacturers could not produce its designs, MYKITA established production itself. Developing specialist tools and processes became integral to the business rather than an occasional necessity. Today, design and manufacturing meet at MYKITA HAUS in Berlin, where technical development and skilled handwork inform one another throughout the creation of a frame.

Stainless steel is especially important to the label's visual identity. Its displayed spiral hinge turns an engineering solution into a recognisable design feature. MYLON adds another avenue through the use of a polyamide based material.

The result is minimalism with a distinctly industrial intelligence. Components are not simply hidden to create a smooth appearance; their function can become part of the frame's expression.
