CAZAL

Eyewear at i2i Optometrists, Glasgow

CAZAL was founded in 1975 by designer Cari Zalloni and entrepreneur Günter Böttcher. Its name combines letters from Zalloni’s name, linking the label directly to his creative identity. Rather than pursuing discreet styling, the brand became known for conspicuous shapes, elaborate detailing and a deliberately individual approach to eyewear. Its collections encompass both sunglasses and optical frames for individual expression.

During the 1980s, CAZAL became closely associated with hip hop culture. The company’s heritage account describes Zalloni’s work as radical maximalism, with designs that polarised opinion while establishing a recognisable visual language. That cultural history remains central to the label, whose international design team continues to develop its founder’s distinctive aesthetic.

Model 607 is one of CAZAL’s enduring classics. The official product description identifies its distinctive, multifaceted lens shape as a defining feature. The photographed version is colour 011, black matt, with an acetate construction and contrasting metallic detailing at the outer corners. Its broad, angular front illustrates the confident proportions associated with the brand’s best known heritage designs.
