Titanium with Italian character.
Blackfin
Eyewear at i2i Optometrists, Glasgow
Blackfin's story begins with Pramaor, the workshop established by Maria Pramaor in Agordo in 1971. The town lies in Italy's Dolomites, within a region closely associated with spectacle making.
A decisive change came in 1991, when Maria Pramaor and Primo Del Din began working with titanium. Technical specialists travelled to Japan to develop their understanding of the material, and the company created a dedicated production department. Blackfin's own collections followed later, with the first frames released in 2008.
Titanium remains the organising principle of Blackfin design. Thin fronts, flexible elements and carefully controlled profiles explore the metal's combination of strength and low weight. Colour is equally important, from restrained metallic finishes to contrasting surfaces that emphasise the construction. Different collection families investigate different possibilities, including sheet titanium, machined solid titanium and particularly spare structures that reduce the visual presence of the frame.
Production remains rooted in Agordo, at the company's Black Shelter headquarters. Industrial processes and manual finishing are brought together within an Italian design culture.
