Kilsgaard

Kilsgaard is a Danish eyewear label founded by Jacob Kilsgaard in 2007. Its original proposition centred on simplicity: contemporary spectacles with clear lines, carefully chosen materials and little unnecessary ornament. The design studio Bønnelycke has documented its involvement from the launch, placing the brand within a broader tradition of Danish product design.

Aluminium has played a important role in that identity. The material allows a precise, lightweight appearance, while anodising creates colour through treatment of the metal surface. Rather than disguising construction behind decorative additions, the early frames made their economical assembly part of the design.

Acetate offers another expression of the same philosophy. Kilsgaard's ACETATE collection uses substantial shapes to reveal the depth, pattern and richness of Japanese acetate. Earthy shades sit alongside more assertive colours, with deliberate detailing extending from the front to the temple tips. The intention is not to add embellishment, but to let the material provide the visual interest.

The company's published design language returns to honesty, focus and doing more with less.
